This image obtained from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) shows Tropical Storm Karen in the Gulf of Mexico on October 5, 2013. Karen, swirling offshore in the Gulf of Mexico, was on track to make landfall late Saturday in the US state of Louisiana, forecasters said. While weakening overnight, the storm is still expected to bring rain and some coastal flooding as it moves toward Mississippi and Alabama, according to the National Hurricane Center. At 1800 GMT, Karen was located about 130 miles (205 kilometers) south-southwest of Morgan City, Louisiana, packing maximum sustained winds of 40 miles per hour. Hurricane watches were canceled overnight, but a tropical storm warning was in effect for an area that included Morgan City, located about 70 miles west of New Orleans. This image provided by the Naval Research Laboratory shows a infrared satellite image taken at 7:40 p.m. EDT Friday Oct. 4, 2013 of Tropical Storm Karen. Karen continued losing strength Saturday as it headed toward the central Gulf Coast, but forecasters were still expecting it to bring significant rain and potential flooding to low-lying areas. The National Hurricane Center reported at 2 a.m. Saturday that Karen's maximum sustained winds had dropped to 40 mph, making it a weak tropical storm. The storm was moving west-northwest at 10 mph to 15 mph. Forecasters say there is a slight chance of strengthening before making landfall. (AP Photo/Naval Research Laboratory) ( Tropical Weather )
