Babe Ruth poses in 1919, his last season in a Boston Red Sox uniform. The Babe went 89-46 as a pitcher in his six seasons with Boston, and he was 3-0 with a 0.87 ERA in three World Series starts. He might well have become a Hall of Fame pitcher. But in 1919, playing much of the season in the outfield, he hit .322 with 29 home runs, more than hinting at the greatness to come. Of course, along with the heroics came salary demands and flashes of Ruth's reckless behavior, which may have contributed to Boston's willingness to part with its star. Whatever the reason, by year's end the Babe would be a New York Yankee. (AP Photo/Library of Congress) ( Red Sox Yankees Babe Ruth )
