According to Santa Cruz deputy police chief Steve Clark, Tichelman left Hayes to die from an overdose when it was obvious Hayes was suffering from 'medical complications' from the drug injection. Surveillance video recovered from the yacht revealed Tichelman nonchalantly gathered her belongings, gulped down a glass of wine and left.
