El Tempranillo born in June 1805 near Cordoba started his criminal endeavours by murdering a man for unknown reasons at 15. Spanish King Fernando VII sent troops to track and arrest Jose Maria and his consorts before giving him a pardon in 1832 and naming him commander of the Squadron Franco Protection and Public Safety Patrol Andalucia, patrolling the roads he once plundered. Jose Maria died in Alameda, near Malaga chasing another highway robber in September 1833. AFP PHOTO/ JORGE GUERREROJorge Guerrero/AFP/Getty Images ( 534094486 )
